There's been some great new research carried out by the Ben-Gurion University of the Negev which has discovered that if you add more milk into your diet, you'll end up with more weight loss over a year period.

The study was carried out over 2 years and the results were publish in the American Journal of Clinical Nutrition. After the 2 years it was found if you consumed 850 mg (12 oz) of dairy products you could lose on average 12 lbs. Whereas if you only drink a glass of milk you'd lose 7 lbs on a average.

Therefore diet as a whole doesn't seem to make much difference based on the results.

It doesn't matter whether you're on a low fat, low carb or Mediterranean diet, it seems that having more dairy is able to help you get more weight loss.

Another interesting thing that was discovered is that the levels of vitamin D grew with those who lost the most fat.

What's so special about vitamin D?

When this study was carried out there were in the region of 300 people involved. So the fact that there's a vitamin d and weight loss connection is very strong.

So if the individual has more vitamin D in their system they would also lose more weight. Whilst those with lower levels of vitamin D had less weight loss.

Can dairy be used alone in losing weight?

It's very easy to think that if you want to lose weight all you have to do is consume a lot of dair. However there's really a lot more to it than that. You'll still need to eat a healthy diet and exercise. So this means having a good balance of essential fatty acids, complex carbs and proteins. Exercising, even just a little bit per day, is also a great idea.
